Step 6: Build a dashboard to show your insights Tableau

tableau dashboard design

In this “Tableau Dashboard tutorial, you will work with this COVID - 19 Dataset. Using Worksheets, you will learn to draw some insights related to the data and eventually design a Tableau Dashboard. If you include Web Page objects in your dashboard, you can optimize security by doing the following.

Check your work! Watch "Add interactivity" in action

When possible, it’s best to label data directly and then you don’t even need to include a legend. Keep the dashboard uncluttered, include only essential information, use clear and concise labels, and utilize whitespace for better readability and separation of elements. Your worksheet should look as follows (notice all sales below $10,000 are highlighted differently). Take what you’ve learned here, apply it, and watch your data come alive. With this interactive platform, energy operators can help clients better visualize data and relate to concepts.

WorkSheet - 1 (COVID-19 Confirmed in INDIA)

You want to emphasize that certain items sold in certain places are doing poorly. Your bar graph view of profit and your map view demonstrate this point nicely. Rigorous Themes is a WordPress theme store which is a bunch of super professional, multi-functional themes with elegant designs. We believe in simplicity, clean, customizable and user-friendly interface with quality code. Whether you’re a Tableau beginner or an expert, these templates offer actionable insights that can help drive decision-making. Tableau streamlines the process of working with the massive data sets generated in the energy and resource power sector.

Chart Choice

When we improved the Top Customers table in Tip #2, we made sure to right-align the numerical values so that they were easier to read. When it comes to text, in most cases, we’ll want to left-align all text to give our dashboard a more professional, clean, and well-organized feel. Look at the Total Customers and Total Sales per Customer KPI’s in the picture above. By improving the use of color in this dashboard, our audience can now more readily see what is important in our visuals.

Sales Pipeline Dashboard

This isn’t just about watching numbers go up or down; it’s a strategic instrument to analyze various aspects of sales, from lead generation to final purchases. By doing so, sales teams can adjust their strategies proactively rather than reacting when it might be too late. Whether it’s identifying high-performing products or pinpointing areas that need attention, this Tableau dashboard is indispensable.

Detailed options for Navigation and Download objects

The Quarterly Forecast Dashboard stands out as a strategic tool for businesses aiming to stay ahead of their sales goals. This isn’t just a visual tool; it’s a roadmap for strategic decision-making. The Executive Overview Sales Summary Dashboard stands out as a powerful tool in any sales-driven environment. Similarly, by changing your filter title to something more intuitive, you guide viewers through how to interact with a dashboard. The Tableau Dashboard will specifically show all the details related to Jharkhand on one screen, as shown below.

Tableau Dashboard acts as a one-stop solution to simultaneously monitor a wide range of real-time business intelligence information and make result-oriented decisions. This data visualization tool helps to guide its users on how to develop better designs, tactics, and data arrangement strategies. When we talk about performance, we mean the speed with which you can work in Tableau. That might mean the speed of data analysis—for example, if you work in Tableau Desktop on a large corporate database that takes forever in real time when you access it remotely. Or it might mean simply the speed of loading views or dashboards that you access on your desktop or from Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud.

And when you integrate this tool to your CRM tool and other relevant extensions, you will have created the ultimate tool to help you take the right sales actions and increase profits. With this dashboard, your sales rep will have easy access to leads, customers’ insights, and sales quota attainment. With a user-friendly interface, the dashboard ensures that even those with minimal technical know-how can navigate through and make sense of their sales data.

Now that our type of customer column is so sparsely populated, we can combine it with the Customer Name column. We can also combine the last two columns since they both have to do with the last order the customer made. We’ll replace the words in the Type of Customer column with stars to indicate which customers are new and which have been re-engaged this year. We won’t point out the repeat customers since that isn’t particularly interesting here. Tableau defaults to showing filters as a list, but the dropdown menu option is much cleaner.

Health-care analysts are usually faced with the challenge of handling voluminous datasets. They deal with patients’ demographics and have to track down trends to keep up-to-date records. Generally, the Superstore Sample dashboard is mainly used to analyze rises and falls in sales, profit margins, shipping periods, and many more.

Tableau is a data visualization platform that focuses on Business Intelligence (BI), the analysis of business information. It has become very popular in recent years because of its flexibility and visual appeal. This BI tool lets organizations gain insights from their data and build visualizations from them. Tableau is well known for its intuitive visualizations and ability to exploit advanced analytical features, even for users without a technical background. It is available as a completely managed cloud-based service called Tableau Online and as an on-premises server-based deployment called Tableau Server. Here, we’ll provide examples of better dashboards created on Tableau, which are some of the easiest and interactive tools for visualizing data.

We work with clients every day, helping them do more with their data. In short, the only font that is guaranteed to display as you see it on your desktop is a font in the Tableau family of fonts. Let’s go through each chart and explore how we can improve our use of color. We will discuss how to use color sparingly and with intention in our dashboard.

With Real Estate dashboards, these house hunters and even sellers can see if the prices of homes are rising and falling in their area of choice. The Social Media dashboard makes collaboration and KPIs alignment within internal and agency teams easy. But these data are only meaningful if you can connect them to draw meaningful insights from them.

I rarely use italic, but will sometimes use it for a note, data source, or author. In short, generally you rarely need to use bold or italic in a dashboard. Taking a few additional steps to clean up visual clutter can have an immense impact on reducing your audience’s cognitive load. A dashboard contains a lot of complex information, but our job is to make that information easier to consume.

In this blog we share 10 best practices so you too can build dashboards that are beautiful, impactful, insightful and – best of all – used in your organization. You’ve created four worksheets, and they're communicating important information that your boss needs to know. Now you need a way to show the negative profits in Tennessee, North Carolina, and Florida and explain some of the reasons why profits are low. This tool can show time-based listing performances and sellers can even introduce third-party analytics integrations to make smarter choices. You can also set date formats, so you can choose to view performances by date granularity or year over year.

To choose the right chart types, consider the data you want to visualize. Bar charts are suitable for comparisons, line charts for trends over time, and scatterplots for exploring relationships between variables. To sum it all up, Tableau dashboard creation is part art and part science. Vizzes are about more than simply presenting the numbers in your reports; they are about effective use of graphical elements to enable insights and aha moments for your users.

However, depending on the size and material, new plastic pallets can range from $60 to $200 per pallet. The only downside to metal pallets is that they can’t be repaired easily and some varieties of metal pallets are super heavy which greatly increases overall costs. Steel metal pallets are great for closed environments that require durability and protection. Aluminum metal pallets are ideal for air-freight, outdoor or at-sea storage due to its ability to withstand corrosion and other weather-related effects. They are sometimes also made of recycled wooden materials that can include wood shavings, old pallets or even wood waste.

These pallets typically consist of three or more pieces of stringer or limber that is arranged in a frame of parallel pattern. When compared with block pallets, these provide additional support considering how there are two boards that run between the bottom and top decks on the opposite sides of the pallets. In exceptional cases, the stringers can be replaced by synthetic foam in order to cushion the unit load, and this particular type is called a ‘floater pallet’.

Handmade Pallet Bathroom Storage

PDS can create a totally new pallet or redesign an existing one to conform to any set of guidelines. Also known as ‘eco pallets’, these pallets are commonly used for storage and transportation of different items and products. There is quite a fascinating history attached behind the origin of paper pallets. These new and updated materials make plastic pallets highly resistant to weathering, corrosion, chemicals and rot.

They are manufactured through a number of different processes and are made from recycled bottles and often high-density polyethylene. Compared to normal wood, plywood is increasingly resistant to infestation by bugs and compared to engineered these pallets are more resistant to moisture. You can also expect to see thin stringers between the deckboards and the blocks that form a mat-like pattern with the former. Also known as a deck board pallet, block ballet is characterized by its cylindrical posts that help create a distinction between bottom and the top of the deck.

This makes them an excellent option to use for numerous purposes given the multiple benefits attached with solid deck pallets. An open deck pallet is one with gaps between the deckboards which makes them lighter and less expensive. However, they cannot be used to ship smaller items because they’ll slip through the cracks. There is a lot of required research needed to maintain our competitive advantage in the industrial products packaging arena.

These pallet projects show you to build all from outstanding furniture to fabulous home and garden decor to bigger entertainment centers for free. With minimal woodworking skills in hands, you can try out all these pallet ideas, based on ultimate recycling creativity. Moreover, these pallet ideas will also encourage you to recycle pallets that are to see in dozens of scrap materials piles, junkyards, and something even on the roads. The Pallet Foundation is the only foundation of its kind that is exclusively designed to help many facets of the wood pallet Industry.

As part of this transition, Sam went to work for Tiny Naylor’s and Jeff went to sit on the 1984 Olympic Committee which was to be hosted in Los Angeles. The Carriage Club, a restaurant in Long Beach, was on the market and Sam went with Tiny Naylor’s to look at the prospect of the space. He called Jeff and proposed they start their own venture and take over this location as their first project. Jeff agreed and they signed their first lease the day before Thanksgiving in 1983.

Our restaurant concepts have proven stiff competition in a tough industry because they all work to fill a niche. We currently operate 23 restaurants with 6 different concepts in California, Arizona, Colorado,  Nevada, and Washington and we're growing! Our restaurant concepts include the Water Grill (7), Pier Burger, 555 East, Lou & Mickey's, Meat On Ocean, and the King's Fish House (12) establishments. Six weeks before the 1984 Olympics, we opened our first concept, 555 East, and we still own and operate the restaurant today. At that time, our company was called University Restaurant Group, a name inspired by the ‘friendly’ rivalry of USC and UCLA, Sam and Jeff's respective alma maters, and we held that name until 1998. Since then they've proven to be successful operators, and they've cultivated the art of delivering a quality product and a great Guest experience in all economic environments. Custom Kydex Holsters & Accessories

In fact, it was well into the start of the micro-9 mm double-stack pistol craze started with the SIG Sauer P365 and continued with the Springfield Armory Hellcat, among others. Other than the subcompact, single-stack 503, the next-smallest FN was the subcompact 509, which is certainly concealable, but not like the P365 or Hellcat. When it comes to carrying a handgun the first thing you need is a good holster. Our EDC Belt has one of the slimmest profiles possible with a buckle.

Obviously, new color options are available, evident in the flat-dark earth model we have here today. And, the new High Power is a half-pound heavier than the model it replaces, a hefty 40 ounces over the original’s 32. That extra heft, though, translates into a pistol that is supremely easy to shoot—it combines the weight of a full-size Government 1911 with an excellent single-action trigger, but with 18 rounds onboard. Since the Reflex is brand new, and one of the very common concerns when it comes to new releases is having holsters available, FN has taken care of it.

Solid marketing and a reputation for being direct and honest might be desirable, especially in the life-and-death world of the firearms industry. Nevertheless, the bottom line for any business is the success or failure of its products. Our patented 3/4 Hybrid TM shell gives our Protos-M holsters all the benefits of a rigid holster with the comfort of a hybrid. The holster is held to the belt by your choice of fasteners.

ANR Design LLC

Speaking of customers, clever marketing and a savvy Internet presence certainly helped ANR Design from the start.

The FN 545 also has a significant accessory rail at the end of the dustcover, for weaponlights and/or lasers as desired. One could easily set the FN 545 up for home defense with the extended magazine, mounted light and suppressor, and then carry it with just the standard magazine. That extends the usefulness of the FN 545, as well as making regular practice simpler, as only one pistol need make the trek to the range. New Hampshire-based ANR Designs has been making top-quality Kydex holsters for a laundry list of firearms for a long time. If there’s one thing that FN America really isn’t known for, it’s concealed-carry-friendly handguns. Oh, sure, the company dropped the tiny FN503 a few years back, but that was, well, quite a bit after pistols from Glock, Smith & Wesson and others were on the market.

PAYMENT OPTIONS

So hot, in fact, that FN America decided to resurrect it, only modernized for the 21st century. Gone is the magazine disconnect that required a magazine be inserted in the pistol for the gun to function. And, perhaps most importantly, capacity is increased to 17+1 rounds. Man, the Hi Power has really had a wild ride, hasn’t it? It pretty much languished for, well, decades; lost in the shadow of John Moses Browning’s M1911 and suffering a dearth of quality defensive ammunition.

The three position adjustable keeper lets you decide what position works for you, then trim away the excess. Classic looks and utility combined to make the perfect EDC belt. The FN 545 Tactical is a bit on the larger side, with a 4.7-inch barrel, overall length of 8.3 inches, height of 6 inches and 31 ounce weight.

I decided to make my own, per a suggestion from a roommate at the time. This funded the Kydex holster-making side of the business. Best of all, the Appendix with Claw holster is part of ANR’s “Quick Ship” line that offers faster lead times for shipping—five to seven days compared to three to five weeks.

The company has done a fantastic job making sure there’s plenty of options available, so we’re going to present three options that are available right off the bat. Innovation and Continuous improvement – ANR Design doesn’t jump on the wagon every time there is a new production technique or fad in the thermoplastic world. We carefully analyze and assess the most effective means to move forward with new production capabilities.

There are still holster makers out there that don’t get this. There’s one significant departure in the Reflex compared to other micro-9 mm double-stack pistols—it’s not striker-fired. An internal hammer-fired single-action-only trigger means the Reflex has a better trigger feel, but there is a definite tradeoff. At the range for the product launch a few months ago, I experienced a handful of failures to fire that turned out to be entirely my fault.

The ANR Design logo originated from a tattoo Alex had tattooed on him years before the company started, Fugen Bosatsu. Similar to a zodiac or protective talisman, Fugen Bosatsu is the central symbol of the logo. The three points of the logo are the Ronin symbol, a wandering samurai who had no lord or master. The pair of symbols in the logo mean “Defensive Masterless Warrior”, to the owners Jon and Alex. These are 1-to-1 licensed patterns provided by the OEM manufacturer. ANR Design does not have control over the pattern, and how it appears on the holster.

The fitness center also offers personalized training and consultations for an additional fee. You can purchase each drink individually or purchase a Royal Caribbean beverage package. A Deluxe Beverage Package gives unlimited access to alcoholic and non-alcoholic specialty beverages.

Is Room Service Included On A Royal Caribbean Cruise?

For instance, Royal Caribbean offers the only “virtual balcony” at sea. These floor to ceiling windows replicate the look and feel of a real balcony with live feeds of the current conditions outside. On Oasis-class ships, cruisers can get an inside view (or balcony) overlooking Central Park or the Boardwalk. Certain cabin categories will also entitle cruisers to additional perks. These may include special access to a private restaurant and lounge or even a Royal Genie.

The currency used on all Royal Caribbean ships is U.S. dollars, no matter where they are in the world. All vessels operate on a "cashless system," with any onboard purchases you make posting automatically to your onboard account. Smoking (including e-cigarette smoking) is allowed only in designated outdoor areas, casinos and the cigar clubs found on Freedom Class and Voyager Class ships. It's forbidden in cabins and on cabin balconies, and those who violate this rule will face a $250 cleaning fee. In the casino, only cigarette smoking is allowed, and only in designated areas on most ships (smoking in casinos is forbidden on sailings out of Australia and U.K. ports). The name on your reservation must be exactly as it is stated on your passport or other official proof of nationality.

Notably, while non-alcoholic beverages (excluding water, lemonade, and iced tea) are covered, you’ll need to budget extra for alcoholic and specialty drinks. The gracious crew members who serve you in the restaurants and bars and keep your stateroom clean are acknowledged via a tipping system. A gratuity of $16 per person per day (in a stateroom) and $18.50 per person per day (in a suite) will be added to your account. In addition, an 18% gratuity is automatically be added to all purchased beverages, mini bar items and spa and salon services. Starbucks coffee is not part of any Royal Caribbean drink package.

Cruise Fare and Budgeting

A vast majority of cruise activities are included with your cruise fare. Your daily Cruise Compass or the Royal Caribbean app will list a schedule of activities offered onboard, and most have no charge. Depending on which type of stateroom you book, the exact size, amenities and layout of the room will vary. But at the very least, your cruise fare includes your own private room and bathroom. Royal Caribbean includes a lot of activities, food, entertainment, and destinations in your cruise fare. When you consider all that the base fare includes, a cruise can be a fantastic vacation value.

If you know you want to eat at a few extra-charge restaurants during your voyage, you can buy one of several dining packages that offer meals at a discount. Royal Caribbean's designers are masters at designing vessels that can carry thousands and thousands of people but still feel relatively uncrowded — at least in some areas. Interior areas bring everything from full-size spas and large casinos to Broadway-quality theaters with top-name shows. The Surfside and Thrill Island neighborhoods are home to some incredible specialty restaurants. At Basecamp, you can refuel between adventures, choosing among a variety of food windows popping out delicious provisions.

Speaking of which, a highlight of Star Class is the dedicated services of the Royal Genie. Beyond that, from 10 pm to 2 am, there’s a group sitting service available, which comes with a fee of $7/hour per child. This charge is automatically applied at the time of the transaction. The breakdown of this charge can be reviewed on the purchase receipt. These gratuities are automatically added to a guest’s onboard account, which the cruise line then uses to distribute to crew members. This can make for a more relaxing and potentially indulgent holiday.

If your cruise has multiple port days when you’ll be away from the ship, your opportunities to take advantage of the package may be limited. The Deluxe Beverage Package typically breaks even at 6-7 drinks per day, while the Royal Refreshment and Soda Packages have a lower break-even point of around 4-5 drinks per day. What are your thoughts about what’s included on a Royal Caribbean cruise (and what’s not)?

Onboard spa and salon services, transfers to and from the airport, laundry services, medical care and wireless internet access also cost extra, as do shore excursions. When it comes to beverages on the ship, guests will have several options. Complimentary beverages include select drinks like iced tea, lemonade, filtered water, some juices, hot chocolate, and drip coffee/tea. While these items are complimentary, soda, bottled water, specialty coffee, and alcoholic beverages will cost extra money. Your Royal Caribbean cruise fare includes a variety of amenities and activities.

One of the only vessels from a major line making such a voyage this year is Silversea Cruises' 132-passenger Silver Explorer. An MSC Cruises ship also is sailing along the west coast of Africa in 2017 but making few stops. Join a 4X4 safari adventure to experience the breathtaking beauty of the desert. Climb a sand dune, or even try some quad biking, sand skiing or camel riding. However, you decide to take in the rolling dunes of the desert, be sure to look to the horizon to see the captivating fata morgana mirage effect, where ships and coastline appear to float above the water.

It’s also a gateway to Cairo and the great pyramids of Giza as an overnight trip. The bustling, vibrant city of Casablanca is a feast for the senses, and one of the busiest ports along this coastline. This city boasts the European charm with Moroccan tradition, and is the country’s commercial center and largest population center. Visit the iconic Hassan II mosque as you stroll the scenic Boulevard de la Corniche along the sea. Finish your day shopping for ornate wood carvings, hand-made leather bags, and decorative tea sets at the Exposition Nationale d’Artisanat emporium. The vessel features some of the largest, most elaborate accommodations at sea, including a single suite measuring 4,443-square-foot -- nearly 50% larger than the average home in the USA. The voyage will bring one of the priciest cruise ships in the world to one of the globe's poorest regions. The per capita income of many of the countries on the itinerary is less than $2,000 per year.

On cruises to Africa, you’ll have the opportunity to visit one or more of the following port cities, as well as their surroundings. Please check with individual cruise lines and their itineraries for detailed port information. An Africa cruise is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that will leave you amazed at the continent's beauty. On African cruises, passengers can visit the wine country of South Africa, or watch the sun sink over the plains of Kenya after a day on safari.

Describing it as an unforgettable experience simply does not do it justice, as it is truly epic. From South Africa to Kenya and Tanzania or across to Namibia, the opportunity to see lions, giraffes, elephants or gorillas in their natural habitat cannot be missed. Setting out with a good guide, especially a park ranger, will considerably up your chances of spotting wildlife. Trained guides are well-versed in the prime in-park vantage points and can get timely updates from other park rangers on current animal movements and migrations. Cruise-run safari excursions will typically make such arrangements as part of their tour (be sure to inquire when booking). If you're making plans to visit the safari park independently during your time in port, you'll definitely want to hire a knowledgeable guide.

We were also not thrilled with the Hilton, the included hotel that Regent partners with in Anchorage. While there aren't a lot of choices in Anchorage before a cruise, we would have preferred the Captain Cook, which Princess and Holland America Line use for their cruise tours. On our June 2022 sailing, we found that the included excursions were hit and miss. The Gold Creek Salmon Bake in Juneau, however, was a dud -- we would have been better off eating on the ship or in town. In 2022, the cruise line was the first to receive Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) certification, meaning its Alaska-bound ships serve only fresh, certified sustainable and traceable wild Alaska seafood. The Lure of Great Lakes Cruises

That signals a continued interest among U.S. travelers in domestic travel, which is now expanding deeper into cruises across the United States. He also sees an emergence in drive-to cruises in the Great Lakes region, noting plenty of interest from travelers in Michigan as well. In 2022, Ponant will offer a handful of fall Great Lakes cruises between Toronto and Miwaukee on its expedition ship Le Bellot. The new focus on Great Lakes cruises opens up a variety of ports that have rarely seen ships, with a season that runs early May through late September. While a few small cruise ships sailed the Great Lakes before the COVID-19 pandemic, it wasn't necessarily a route that attracted much attention, particularly from American cruisers. There are a number of cruise lines to choose from, including Great Lakes Cruise Lines, Viking, American Queen Voyages, Pearl Seas Cruises, St. Lawrence Cruise Lines, Ponant, Hagap-Loyd, Plantours Cruises, Tauck, and Windstar.

Great Lakes & Georgian Bay Cruise

Rather, you’ll be cruising the Great Lakes in a smaller vessel with just a couple hundred other travelers. This is partly due to the size of the locks that connect the lakes, as only the smaller ships can pass through them. Bierdz says that AQV's Great Lakes cruises are drawing passengers from California, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas and Florida.

If adding all five lakes to your bucket list is your goal, be sure your Great Lakes cruise ship actually enters Lake Superior, if only briefly. Viking Great Lake cruise itineraries include two eight-day trips from Milwaukee to either Toronto or Thunder Bay, and a 15-day route from Toronto to Duluth. The longer route is always aboard Viking Octantis, while Thunder Bay is always visited aboard the Polaris. Both ships, however, are the same in terms of size, layout and design.

That's something that you'll be hard-pressed to accomplish any other way. In general, waiting until the last minute is not the best idea, unless you live in a gateway city such as Chicago, Milwaukee or Toronto and don't need to book flights. Included tours are part of what you're paying for when you pay the high prices noted above. So you can go off on your own in any of the places these ships visit.

Longer cruises on the Great Lakes trace a similar route from Chicago, adding stops at Cleveland, Ohio and Buffalo, NY, both on Lake Erie. A stop is made at the Lake Ontario port of Rochester, NY, before entering the Erie Canal, passing through New York Harbor and ending in Warren, RI. Pearl Sea Cruises operates the 210-passenger Pearl Mist on seven- or 11-night cruises between Milwaukee and Toronto or Midland.

Great Lakes cruise weather can be chilly at the start of the season, with low temperatures in the 40s in May in some areas and highs in the 60s. It warms up considerably by July and August, with high temperatures in the 70s and 80s. The cruise season in the Great Lakes is also limited in its length by the opening and closing of the St. Lawrence Seaway — the system of locks, canals and channels that connects the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean.

When you want to go will depend on which activities you want to do, how you feel about cool weather and the price. Cruises at the beginning of the Great Lakes cruise season in May are generally a bit less expensive than those in June, July, August and September. Choose from dozens of itineraries as you explore iconic destinations along the Great Lakes. From the rich history of Mackinac Island and French Canadian villages to the breathtaking shoreline of Lake Superior and the cultural epicenters of iconic cities such as Detroit and Chicago, you can create memories to last a lifetime.

From the perfect comfort of the Pearl Mist, sail among the 30,000 Islands and visit the many remarkable destinations along the way.Explore the delightful town of Holland, home to the only authentic Dutch windmill in North America. Wind down with the slow-paced lifestyle of Mackinac Island where visitors and residents travel by bicycle, horse-drawn carriage, or on foot. Indulge in the charm and elegance of our Lake Ontario cruises, where historic ports and vibrant cities offer many activities to enjoy.

Traverse the tranquil waters on a Lake Huron cruise, immersing yourself in the peacefulness of this natural paradise. Experience the great beauty of Lake Michigan cruises, where pristine shores and stunning vistas await. Delve into the rich history and vibrant culture of the region with our Lake Erie cruises, offering captivating insights into this storied waterway. Journey through beautiful landscapes on our Lake Superior cruises, renowned for its rugged beauty and preserved wilderness. There's a lot to see and do in the Great Lakes region, and it's hard to argue that there's a better way to see and do it than on a cruise. Cruise vessels departing from such cities as Chicago and Toronto can take you to all of the highlights of the region — from the breweries of Milwaukee to thundering Niagara Falls — in a single trip.

Enjoy luxurious accommodations, exceptional cuisine, and personalized service every day on board our modern cruise ships. With COVID-19 variants and continued fears over testing and quarantine, travelers are searching for cruises that are easy, Bierdz said. And Great Lakes itineraries include homeports such as Chicago, Toronto and Montreal that are high on tourists' must-visit lists in their own right. Even better, AQV will be docking its overnight ships at Navy Pier in Chicago -- an advantage no one else has.

While Great Lakes ships have traditionally been smaller, more modest coastal vessels, Viking is shaking things up by bringing a polar-class expedition ship to the region. French cruise line Ponant is also sailing the Great Lakes this fall and next with luxury expedition ships complete with underwater lounges. We provide guests an extraordinary cruising experience while exploring the most magnificent regions of the world.

With a capacity of 378 passengers, Viking Octantis (and now its sister ship) holds the distinction of being the largest modern cruise ship to sail the lakes. Everyone cruising in Canada must also undergo precruise testing (something that the majority of cruise lines also still require) even though prearrival COVID testing has been dropped for international air arrivals into Canada. Make sure to check with your cruise line and the latest government restrictions as requirements can and do change. According to the marketing association Cruise the Great Lakes, nine ships are on the lakes this year, which marks a return after no cruises at all in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The cruises also attract foreign tourists because it enables them to see different landscapes, historical sites, and attractions in the U.S., many of which they may not have ever even heard about before. Great Lakes Cruise Company, a niche line that was one of the pioneers of modern cruising on the lakes, is now entering its 25th year. The Great Lakes are an inland waterway of five interconnected freshwater lakes located along the U.S.-Canadian border. They include Lakes Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie, and Ontario from west to east. Viking has brought expedition-style cruising to the region, complete with submarines. The ships have a subtle contemporary decor and both casual and more formal dining options, 188-seat theaters, spa and fitness areas, and a fleet of nine Zodiacs (for use in Canadian waters).

In general, Carnival ships are among the most affordable at sea. It's not uncommon to find Carnival voyages to the Caribbean, Bahamas or Mexico starting well under $100 per person, per night including all taxes and fees — at least in the offseason. The second-to-highest tier, Platinum (75 points), brings such perks as priority check-in and boarding, priority debarkation, priority dinner reservations, priority spa reservations and priority water shuttle boarding. Platinums also get complimentary wash-and-fold laundry service (with a limit of two to five bags, depending on the length of the cruise). On most ships, smoking (including electronic cigarettes) is only allowed in designated outdoor areas and in casinos and nightclubs. In casinos and nightclubs, only cigarette smoking is allowed.

All this said, we recommend checking Carnival's website before sailing for up-to-date requirements. The second quarter involves pool deck games where passengers have to dress up in football gear to complete team races. Activities here are less structured, and participants can come and go as they please. My two most disappointing extra-fee food encounters on Carnival Jubilee were Seafood Shack (Deck 16, in the Lido zone, near the pool) and room service.

The heart of the program, called Camp Ocean, brings free, supervised activities daily for children aged 2 to 11. The line splits children here into three age groups — Penguins (aged 2-5 years), Stingrays (aged 6-8 years) and Sharks (aged 9-11 years). Near the ship's tween and teen clubrooms, it has two padded trampoline areas where you can jump around and take part in games like jousting on a balance beam or shooting baskets while bouncing. There's even trampoline dodgeball and, at one end of the room, a climbing wall augmented with interactive game elements. Other popular venues found on some Carnival ships include RedFrog Pub, which serves up Carnival's tasty housemade beers on tap, as well as plenty of other choices.

Scenic Ocean View

Balcony staterooms were designed for maximum sea breeze and the most stunning views, so look to a balcony if you’re looking to cruise aboard Carnival Valor. Any time you’re in your room, you’re just steps away from your own personal outdoor oasis, featuring the sort of sea view you can also feel. The second new show is the "Lone Star Tailgate." Drawing on Texas' love for all things football, Carnival has created four indoor/outdoor "quarters" of fun to mimic the four quarters of a football game. When I sailed, the first quarter, which is all about pool deck games for kids, was held on one sea day, and the other three were held on another sea day.

If you search, you’ll find that there’s a correlation between cruise prices and the school year. Sail during the summer, Christmas holidays, or Spring Break, and fares will be higher than sailing times like the fall or winter. Carnival Spirit sets sail from home ports around the United States to Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean, and the Panama Canal. The ship offers a wide range of entertainment options, including mini-golf, a jogging track, kids clubs, and adult-centric entertainment.

Marina Bar

That's about 40% smaller than the biggest ships operated by Royal Caribbean. Sure, Carnival Jubilee carries a lot of people, and it can feel crowded and cumbersome to learn your way around at first. You must be at least 21 years old to drink alcohol on Carnival Jubilee. Entertainment on Carnival Jubilee is a combination of passenger favorites from other ships and new shows that you'll only find on this vessel. Carnival Horizon

Best of all, the mild climate means it doesn’t even matter what time of year you go. A Carnival Caribbean cruise takes you to some of the coolest little hotspots… stretching across the world’s designated hotspot. Whether you use a travel agent or not, make sure to maximize your credit card points when paying for the cruise by using a credit card that offers extra points for travel purchases. This could be the Chase Sapphire Reserve, which offers 3 Ultimate Rewards points on travel and dining (excluding the annual $300 travel credit). There's also the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card, which brings 2 Ultimate Rewards points on travel and 3 Ultimate Rewards points on dining. A Carnival passenger taking seven-night cruises will hit the Platinum level during their 11th sailing.

Fully accessible rooms are stair-free, flat-threshold cabins, which offer wider (32-inch) doorways, turning space and bathrooms equipped with grab bars and shower seats. Cruise fans know that Carnival brought Bolt, the first-ever roller coaster at sea, to Mardi Gras in 2021. Carnival Jubilee offers the same ride — the third of its kind on a cruise ship — in the deck 18, 19 and 20 Ultimate Playground area.

The cruise aboard Carnival Panorama is for seven nights and takes you to all the hotspots on the Pacific side of Mexico. When it comes to the least expensive cruise of 2024, you have several itineraries to choose from at $179 per person for an interior room, but they are all aboard the Carnival Conquest sailing from Miami. We chose this trip because it is four days with two port stops, including the Half Moon Cay private destination. With two to nine-day cruises from Tampa to the Caribbean and the Bahamas, Carnival Paradise literally takes cruisers to paradise islands. The ship brims with fun amenities like the WaterWorks splash zone and the relaxing Cloud 9 Spa. Carnival Conquest takes cruisers to the Bahamas and the Caribbean on two to 10-day sailings.

And with everything to see, don’t forget about the fantastical flavors, with Emeril’s Bistro 717™, Dr.Inks, Ph.D.™ and The Golden Mermaid™. Carnival Panorama is smaller than today's mega-ships, but it packs a ton of fun into its 15 decks. Rooms are spacious; some come with exclusive perks like access to the Havana Pool area or unlimited use of the spa’s thermal suites. Kids will also love that there’s an onboard waterpark, kids club, and a Build-a-Bear Workshop at Sea. However, I often consider more than the total cost before booking a cruise. I look at the ports of call, the space-to-guest ratio, the amenities and onboard activities, and the launch point.

First, it sails from Jacksonville which isn’t as busy a port as Miami or Port Canaveral. As well, it’s on Carnival Elation, which is one of the oldest ships in the fleet. September is a great time for cruise deals as kids are back in school, meaning lower demand from families to sail. Meanwhile, the weather is still warm so you can enjoy getting some sun and water even before you reach the Caribbean. You’ll visit Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas, and don’t forget days at sea to work on your tan. And while the price isn’t as cheap as the lowest fares of 2024, it’s still a strong deal.

If you're sure you know what sort of cabin you want, on which ship, on which itinerary — and about a dozen other things — you can head over to Carnival.com to book directly. Note that, in contrast to airline frequent flyer programs, cruise line loyalty programs do not require you to requalify for status every year. However, it's not as difficult as it might at first seem to hit the more rewarding higher-level tiers in just a few years if you're cruising a lot. As is typical with cruise line loyalty programs, lower tiers don't bring all that much in terms of truly valuable benefits.
